while we’re on the topic of myspace…
check out travis’ most recent album from last december 2008 on his myspace here
if you haven’t heard it before, you can listen to “youth gone awry” at that link, or even buy it. we’ll ship you out a personal package with the album art and tunes!
this weekend, there’s a lot going on — i’m off to santa cruz to visit my very musical brother, tommy van vechten—whose music you should also check out—and then travis’ mother amy is having a big birthday party on saturday night. look for more blogs on sunday — there’s going to be tons of updates!

logo a go-go
incredibly-talented illustrator and graphic designer, mattias mackler—whom aimes met during her days at FLYP—made us this logo:

he’s not finished with the adobe illustrator rendering, but we LOVE this hand drawn start!
his concept suggests morphability — we’d keep this outline and use various colorings, sketchiness or textures to change it up.
thanks, mats!

sad share – french connection
demilo likes videos. we like shooting, storyboarding and production. mostly, we like editing.
however, we’re getting impatient.
travis and i want to make videos, but since i sold my panasonic hvx200, it’s hard to go back to recording on the isight. and while i have final cut pro at work, the best i’ve currently got at home is imovie2.
but you can’t turn off the urge.
we recorded this a few weeks ago. it’s called french connection, and its one of the tracks we’re recording for the new album “pink friday,” which comes out in februrary 2010.
too bad about the buzz on the outboard computer mic—although i have to admit, i’m still amazed that the modern average joe out there has access to this kind of multimedia magic making.
for shizngigs, y’all.
be nice. we know the sound quality sucks.
(this is also strange: it plays with letterboxing on one side only in the 16:9 youtube native frame, but on this blog, it gets squished 4:3 and letterboxes everywhere.)
much love,

picking out a piano
since my keyboard died early this summer, there’s been something missing. i own a player piano which currently resides at my mom’s house in escondido, but at half a ton, it’s not the easiest to move.
begin shopping time! here are my criteria so far:

(1) must feel like a piano. weighted keys. piano, mezzo and forte touch sensitivity settings. hammer technology.
(2) must be both giggable and studio-friendly. 1/4″ output for board, amp and mbox compatibility.
(3) bells and whistles always welcome, though goal is to strike a balance between affordable and AWESOME.
last weekend at bananas at large—my go-to marin music spot (although i’m taking recs, for those of you in the vicinity)—i found myself on the roland fantom g8 almost immediately. no i don’t need the workstation midi with 5,304,398 sound effects. but GOD DAMN is that thing inspiring to play.
i’m hoping i can convince myself to settle for this very affordable and beautiful option instead:
Casio Privia (PX120, 130, 575, 800)
800 pictured with stand — keyboard is portable
Thoughts?
